Welcome to MENAHRA
MENAHRA aims to develop harm reduction in the Middle East and North Africa. MENAHRA comprises three sub-regional knowledge hubs responsible for capacity building,training,advocacy and documentation, and a Network linking people working in this field.
 

Soins Infirmiers et Developpement Communautaire (SIDC) in Beirut hosts the sub-regional hub for Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Yemen and the Gulf States. The Iranian National Center on Addictions (INCAS) hosts the sub-regional hub for Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. ArRazi Hospital in Rabat hosts the sub-regional knowledge hub for Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and possibly Libya.
 
The project is supported by the World Health Organization and International Harm Reduction Association with financial support from the Drosos Foundation.

IHRA's 20th IC on HR - Day 4 and Closure Session Print E-mail

This is the last day of the Conference, after having a number of interesting sessions that varied from scientific ones, to advocacy, Gender roles, International Drug policies, Nurses role in Harm Reduction, in addition to the Pharmaceutical session that tackled the advantages and the inconvenience of the methamphetamine, IHRA closed the conference were all participants and people who prepared and participated actively to it were acknowledged and thanked.


Professor Nicholas Croft from the board of IHRA stated that Harm reduction is on the right side of the history; his idea was completed by the speech of the Executive Director of the International Aids Society Mr. Craig McClure who presented his "Reflections on the Politics of Harm Reduction and the Global Response to HIV".
Mr. McClure approached the criminalization and the denial issues that contribute to increase Harm for People who Use Drug that he asked directly to avoid Harm, collaborate in preventing and avoiding to contract HIV, to support PLWH, to fight for having a just society, and to overcome their fears, Because " fear is not the natural state of civilized people" as he declared.  

Furthermore, the short movie on Needles Exchange:  " A Cleaner Fix" from Indonesia was awarded for the film festival award in 2009, in addition to the award given to Dimitri Sheremby for his active work on Harm Reduction.

Finally, Eric Schneider's speech from INPUD followed, Eric stressed the importance of decriminalized People who Use Drug, and to involve them in each program and approach on Harm reduction, thus he affirmed that "If you want to do something, do it with us".

Moreover, and to close the conference Professor Gerry Stimson and Paddy Costall acknowledged people who were actively organizing the conference in addition to individuals, Networks, Associations and Organizations who made the conference successful.
Here the logo of MENAHRA was shown among the others Networks logos that were reflecting their active role in changing the world through developing Harm Reduction.

 Professor Stimson and Costall also announced the next upcoming 21st conference on Harm reduction that will take place in Liverpool.
 
Finally, Sally Woods and Jim McVeigh from Liverpool John Moores University welcomed people to come to the Liverpool for the next Conference on HR through a short attractive presentation that they exposed on the City.
