Call for wide sign-on to IDPC letter about Philippines drug policy crisis

Dear colleagues,

 Many of you will have heard of the terrible extrajudicial killings targeting people suspected of using, dealing and supplying drugs in the Philippines since President Duterte launched his war on drugs a few months ago. IDPC is working closely with civil society groups in the region, together with ANPUD, to plan and implement advocacy actions around this critical issue, while being mindful about provoking any negative backlash against local advocates.

العلاقة الإنسانية المهنية مع مستخدمي المخدرات وأثرها في عملية التغيير الايجابي ومقاربة الصحة العامة

التقيت قبل أيام بأحد مستخدمي المخدرات في الشارع قرب محطة الحافلات العامة وبعد المصافحة وسؤال الطمأنينة على الحال بدا يتحدث لي عن رغبته العميقة بالعلاج وبعد حديث مقتضب شرع يسرد لي الأخطاء والممارسات السلبية التي تعرض لها عند تردده على تلقي الخدمات المختلفة. واستوقفني الحوار لعدة نقاط رغبت بمراجعتها: بعيدا عن حيل الإنكار والتبرير والإسقاط والمقاومة للتغيير ماذا فعلنا نحن كمقدمي خدمات إنسانية صحية واجتماعية واستشارية لمستخدمي المخدرات المعرضين للخطر – إن التقبل و الاحترام والثقة والسرية والإصغاء الفعال والحوار الدافئ المتودد ممارسات وتطبيقات لا أقوال ولا شعارات ولا تنظير .... وهذا حال اي علاقة إنسانية بين طرفين مع اختلاف الرسالة واللغة ..اقترح عمل منتديات للمهنيين المعنيين بالعمل الميداني والمباشر مع مستخدمي المخدرات وتبادل الخبرات الإنسانية والمهنية المتعلقة بهذا الموضوع.

Elizabeth Warren and rock star Sting, says the war on drugs has failed and calls for a shift in global drug policy from emphasizing criminalization and punishment to health and human rights.

This coming March 1, the world will commemorate Zero Discrimination Day, an occasion that gives all of us a chance to celebrate diversity and come together to promote tolerance and inclusion.

This year for Zero Discrimination Day UNAIDS will be looking at discrimination in health care settings which is preventing large numbers of people from accessing essential health care services. In 2016 UNAIDS will be identifying factors that lead to discrimination and will aim to establish the necessary conditions and recommendations that need to happen to provide a conducive environment for everyone to receive the health services they need regardless of age, status, race, religion, profession or gender.
